Ozone Generator

We all know that ozone is one of the most important gases present in the earth's atmosphere performing the very critical functions of blocking the harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching the earth's surface as well as helping keep the temperature of the earth's surface warm enough. But aside from these functions, ozone gas also plays a lesser task though no less important. Ozone is used as a disinfectant for air and drinking water and is used by many utilities for water and air treatment.

As an oxidizing agent, ozone is used industrially as a bleaching agent and also to kill bacteria and other harmful organisms. Many water utilities and municipal drinking systems prefer using ozone to disinfect water instead of chlorine. The reason is that ozone simply vanishes without a trace after it has been used. This is because ozone, which is made of oxygen, simply reverts to pure oxygen once used. There are no by-products produced compared to other disinfectants like chlorine, meaning it will not leave any undesirable odor or taste in the water.

Ozone used for disinfection is created through ozone generators where an electric voltage passes through a chamber of oxygen to create ozone gas. There is now a wide variety of ozone generators available. Some companies that make ozone generator claim that their ozone generators are safe and effective devices to clean indoor air and prevent air pollution. Despite these advance, there are no government approved ozone generators for occupied spaces yet. It should be noted that ozone poses a serious health risk especially when present in higher concentrations.

Currently, the technology behind ozone generators is continuously being improved. Many companies are investing in research to discover new and improved ozone generation technologies. For now, ozone generators play an important role in keeping our drinking water safe, clean and free from bacteria.
